Day Three of Better Bladder Challenge (3 Minute Video)

Clean up your hormones/Estrogen is your friend

If you’re under 30 you probably don’t need any help with this but you do need to understand it as it eventually effects all women. Estrogen is your friend. One of the many things it does is lower the pH level in the vagina. This helps keep the vagina a safe haven for healthy bacteria that we need. When a women ages or has treatment that lowers her natural hormones the pH in the vagina rises and it makes a more friendly environment for pathologic (bad) bacteria to live. Now the e. coli, klebsiella and enterococcus have an easier pathway to infect your bladder.

Remember that testosterone is a precursor hormone in young women’s bodies and is often found in fairly high levels. This is normal and natural. It is converted into estrogens in your body.

Challenge:

Educate yourself about estrogen. “Estrogen Matters” by Avrum Bluming, MD and Carol Tavris, PhD is a great book.  CLICK HERE to grab it and help educate yourself on the benefits of having healthy hormones.  Discuss with your doctor if hormone creams, replacement or suppositories (my favorite) are appropriate for you.
